PERFECT NUMBER caught up with three of LA’s coolest girls, Rachel Nguyen, Monroe Alvarez, and Brittany Colombo, on their favorite LA spots, and shot them in some of our SS’19 collection looks.

Rachel Nguyen, Blogger

Rachel started her personal style blog, That’s Chic, while in high school more than a decade ago. At the time, she saw blogging as a creative outlet but didn’t think it would ever be a viable career option.  “Like any teenager, it was just a silly outlet for me,” she says.” I would have never seen it as it is today. It wasn’t even a business option 10 years ago.”

Now, she’s an online tastemaker with a style and voice authentically her own. Her documentation of her sunny LA life would inspire anyone to head to the west coast — and she’s got the video blog to prove it.

To eat

EATALY for a mini Italian experience One, I love this mall. It’s an outdoor mall experience with everything really thought out. But going to Eataly here takes the cake. Go there to eat, buy groceries, refill your olive oil, and try a little bit of everything.

ROKU for amazing Japanese food. The first time I had this was off-strip in Vegas and I’ve dreamt about it since, so when this opened on La Cienaga, I died inside. It has the best menu for Japanese food from sushi to handmade tofu.

BAVEL for the prawns.

MHZH for comfort food This is one of my favorite places to eat with girlfriends for the simple, affordable dining that is nothing short of thoughtful and delicious.

SOUPLANTATION for cheap and indulgent salads.

SPERANZA for big pastas and pretty humans.

THE REAL REAL. Half my wardrobe is from this site. Pre-loved clothing is one of the most sustainable ways to shop, and they have an amazing curation of designer goods.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL THRIFT STORE is one of the bigger thrift shops in LA that is best spent dividing and conquering with another thrift lover.

LARCHMONT FARMER’S MARKET. I go here every Sunday I’m in town for groceries, pasta, coconut cold brew coffee, and honey.

SUMMER MOVIES AT HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY.  I go every summer to picnic and enjoy a movie under the stars.

HIKING through Fern Dell.

OLYMPIC SPA for scrubs and me-time. This wouldn’t be an LA list without throwing in a Korean spa! I love carving out a full day to relax, eat, scrub, bathe, and hang on my laptop here.

SWEATHEORY for vibey yoga.

Monroe Alvarez, Photographer

Born to a fashion model mother and a photographer father, Monroe became a model/photographer hybrid, moving effortlessly between the two sides of the camera. Her experience on both sides of the camera has lent her a photographic nuance beyond her years. She is also the founder of GRLSWIRL, an inclusive skate sisterhood that empowers women to break gender boundaries in the male-dominated sport.

To eat:

FELIX. The best place to get pasta. They hand make everything so you can’t beat that. My boyfriend and I always get the Cacio e Pepe, and one time we decided to order a third round of it for our dessert. That’s how bomb it is.

GJUSTA and GJELINA. What I love about these spots is that they know how to create a vibe. The lighting is just perfect, the food is incredible, and they don’t care if you’re Brad Pitt or Joe from down the road. No one gets favored.

MZLALA. Bomb Mediterranean spot. There’s no alcohol here so that can dictate your decision to go for dinner, but my friends will just sneak some wine in a water bottle

BOTANICA. Emily who started the restaurant is the sweetest human. I love going to her spot because the food menu is clean, fresh, and delicious — true California cuisine. They also have an amazing wine menu with so many natural and organic options.

AMARA KITCHEN.  Paola, the owner, has been a dear friend of mine since before she ever started Amara. I will drive from Venice to Highland park just to get a cup of her bone broth and a footprint cookie.

I try to shop as sustainably as possible. A lot of my friends have clothing companies so I stick with those: Sugar Candy Mountain, Jungmaven, Burning Torch, NSF, Christy Dawn, and consignment stores.

VENICE BEACH. I live here, and it’s the best outdoor space.

OLYMPIC SPA is my favorite! I always get a 110-minute massage from Julie or Hannah.

Brittany Colombo, Model

Brittany, who was born in LA and raised in Chicago, has been building her modeling resume since she was just 17. While she’s great in editorial, she also brings something special to music videos — you can catch her in Miguel’s “Sure Thing” and Timbaland’s “Carry Out.” Her appearance in  Jack White’s “Freedom at 21” also made waves and put her on the map.

To eat:

CROFT ALLEY. I’ve been going to this little spot for a couple of years now and I absolutely adore it. The spot itself is very laid back and open with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. I used to get the French scramble it’s a perfect balance of eggs toast and fresh avocado but now that I’m vegan  I get the coconut risotto with steam Bok choy, delicious

ALFRED’S TEA ROOM is pretty, pink, and has amazing tea. My favorite is the rose tea with almond milk.

NIC’S ON BEVERLY is a vegan spot, but instead of just replacing all the meat with tofu or a beyond meat, they replace it with vegetables. Their lava cake and falafel burger are absolutely amazing.

COFFEE DOSE is the perfect quick spot. They have the best turmeric tea and vegan banana bread, and while you wait on your drink, you can shop or take a workout class upstairs.

To shop:

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD is inspiring. A little pricey, but well worth it because you get unique threads.

THE ROSE BOWL FLEA MARKET, held on the second weekend of each month, is amazing.  You can find everything! Any style, any trend, any era — it’s there and it’s cheap if you know how to negotiate. I buy everything from clothes to furniture here.

BLICK ART SUPPLY is the perfect place for creatives to get lost in fun projects.

I love the SIMI VALLEY HIKE PATHS, RUNYON CANYON, rollerblading on the VENICE PATHWAY, and playing tennis on outdoor courts.

SHABBA NIGHTS is a great club in the Silver Lake area, once a month on the weekend they open their doors, and it’s so much fun!

DREAMLAB for skincare. Ask for Lauren, who is a powerhouse. I’m always so impressed by her skills and knowledge.

I’m Buddhist, and practice NICHIREN DAISHONIN teachings, and am part of the SGI-USA organization. I chant daimoku (that is saying “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo”) to center myself and to give me clarity.
